go back Fruit surface feeding by wasps
test image test image test image test image

Wasps are both predators and plant feeders. They damage fruit where the fruit surface has already been broken by another insect or disease, or where cracking has occurred. In ripe fruit, the feeding may become extensive, creating deep excavations. Wasp feeding on the flesh often leaves uncollected small pellets of tissue which turn pale brown. By attacking the sites of fresh damage by young caterpillars, wasps may sometimes eat the caterpillar as well as damage the fruit.
