aphid feeding

Stonefruits are attacked by a range of aphid pest species. Most settle preferentially near the tips of shoots where their feeding causes distortion of young growth. Aphids suck the sap from the shoots and leaves and produce copious quantities of honeydew which contaminates leaves and fruits. The honeydew provides a rich substrate for the growth of sooty mould.
