Fruit discolouration and scarring of apple due to egg laying by cicada

These fruits have diagonal rows of oviposition (egg-laying) scars made by female cicadas. Eggs are laid in groups beneath the skin. This kind of damage can also occur in stems. Similar damage probably occurs in stonefruits.
