go back Fruit flies

The fruit flies are some of the most important pests of fruit crops worldwide. New Zealand is especially fortunate not to have any of these and strict quarantine practices have prevented their establishment. Vinegar flies (Drosophila spp.) are sometimes incorrectly called fruit flies in New Zealand, but unlike the true fruit flies, they only attack rotting and overripe fruit.
