go back Pupal cocoon of the lemon tree borer parasitoid, Xanthocryptus novozelandicus

Lemon tree borer larvae feed within the stems and branches of their host trees. Xanthocryptus novozelandicus is a parasitic wasp (family Ichneumonidae) which attacks lemon tree borer larvae. One wasp is produced from a single host larva, and when the wasp is ready to pupate, it forms a cocoon within the bore holes made by the beetle larva.
