| Possible woolly apple aphid predator - pirate bug, Orius vicinus |
|---|
The pirate bug, Orius vicinus, is a general predator which feeds on a number of orchard mite and insect pests. Although it is common in organic and IFP orchards in Otago, and is increasing in numbers in Canterbury, it has not yet been observed to feed on woolly apple aphid. However, other aphid species are reported to be part of its prey overseas.
