| San Jose scale - timing of crawler release and male flight with other methods |
|---|
The timing of the life cycle of San Jose scale is strongly dependent on temperature and is discussed in the life history. A variety of methods have been used to estimate the timing of male and crawler emergence, in additon to those already described.
| Method | Recommendation |
| Temperature (day degrees (DD) above a threshold | Male flight (1st generation)
occurs 139 - 231 DD above 7.3oC (Hungary). Crawler release (1st generation) occurs 405-577 DD above 7.3oC (Hungary). (see also life history) |
| Crop phenology | End of crawler release (1st generation) 60-80 days after full bloom of cherry (Europe). |
| Date of male flight | Central Otago 2 generations: late October/early
November, February/March Nelson 3 generations: late September/early October, January, March/April Hawkes Bay 3 generations: late September/early October, January/early February, March/April |
| Date of crawler release | 1st generation 32 days after male flight, 2nd generation 23 days after male flight (Europe) |
