A wide variety of spiders live in apple and pear orchards. Some form webs over shoot tips or fruit clusters, while others web leaves together. Spiders may also be found on fruits around the calyx, where their fine webbing is an indication that they are there. Spider webbing is as fine as the webbing made by leafroller caterpillars but it often becomes bunched, appearing thicker. Dead flies and other prey may be present in the spider webs whereas leafroller webbing is clean and often formed into a tube around the caterpillar.
