Leaf rolls by leafcurling midge and leafroller are superficially similar. However, the rolls caused by leafcurling midge are much tighter and are commonly found on the young leaves near the shoot tips. Leafrollers also sometimes attack these leaves but the leaves are rolled and folded less tightly. Wind damage to young leaves often distorts their shape, and their edges turn black.
