| Faecal (frass) pellets on fruits |
|---|
Leafroller caterpillars have a projectile mechanism which scatters their frass over the fruit surface. On the other hand, codling moth caterpillars produce frass inside their tunnels and push it to the surface, where it appears in clumps. Earwig frass is also sometimes clumped and it lacks the webbing associated with leafroller feeding.
