Earwigs are both predators and pests. They feed on fruits where damage has already been done by other insects or diseases, or where cracking has occurred. These circumstances occur most often at the calyx or stem end of the fruit, and earwigs may bore more deeply, creating short tunnels. The feeding damage is often accompanied by the presence of faecal pellets (frass).
